As a pre-school staff team we are incredibly passionate about continuing our own learning journeys. Therefore, in 2021 it only seemed natural that with our lovely rural setting that we looked in to running our own forest school. We arranged forest school leader training for Becky and a location for the school in Upottery Primary Schools dedicated forest school area.
The forest school site is a fantastic area with many sections including an area for den building, lighting a fire and a lovely large mud kitchen to explore in. We continue to expand on the pre-school curriculum whilst in forest school, giving children the time to repeat, revisit and build upon their interests. The children also have the opportunity to learn about the wildlife that can be found and we also encourage them to take care of the environment around them including the forest school site. They also learn about tools and tool safety and how to build a fire and the rules we have to stay safe around it.
Forest school runs in all weathers except very high winds where we remain in the pre-school building for safety purposes.
Becky is our forest school lead and holds a level three forest school qualification along with an outdoor first aid certificate.
